"Galeria Brasiliana" is dedicated to the research, collection and commerce of great Brazilian masters and has ammased an important folk art collection. In 1971 art dealer and curator Roberto Rugiero began this work with the discovery of then unknown artists who now receive international acclaim.
Brazilian folk art is unique as the historical bi-product of the encounter of three cultures – the Portuguese, with its medieval components, the native Brazilian Indian and the African people brought later to work in the New World. It is characterized by its ludic spirit, creativity and great diversity in styles and in cultural expression. Paintings, ceramics, sculpture, wood engravings, and art objects give testimony to the diversity that makes this art one of the most important and admired national arts in the world.
